Sherry and Wingate
Testimonial
I like to feed the horses. I love to give Sherry hugs and kisses. I like watching Mommy ride horses. I like to ride them. I wish to ride them. I like playing and watch people ride horses. I like to play in the dirt with sand toys. I like to pick up rocks to get money and I like to ride on the sleigh. That's it.

I first met Sherry in 2001 when I was 25 years old. I decided that it was time for me to pursue my life long desire to ride horses. I called Burnt Meadow Stables and scheduled my first lesson. At the time I was just trying to allow myself the opportunity to let go and have some "me" time after many years of hard work getting through nursing school. Now, I realize, it was a call that changed my life in ways I never could have predicted and that I am certain God led me to make.
When I walked into the barn for my first lesson in August Sherry was there to greet me with a smile. We walked down to the paddocks together and led Bubbles back up to the barn to start getting him ready for my lesson. She started from the very beginning with me...how to safely lead him up to the barn, how to place him on the crossties, how to properly groom him, and how to tack up. The very first thing that I learned was that, at Burnt Meadow Stables, horsemanship comes first and riding comes second. You cannot start riding until you have taken the time to properly care for the horses. This impressed me immediately and I knew this was a good fit for me. I have grown to love all the horses and just being there, riding or not, is a huge satisfier in my life.
A lot has changed since that first lesson. I have married and have 2 wonderful children. I lost my father to cancer. I have changed my job 3 times...finally settling into an emergency department. My husband and I have built a home in Madison. I have seen 5 of the horses at Burnt Meadow trot away to heaven...Roy, I must confess, hit me the hardest. He will always hold a special place in my heart and was hugely instrumental in my riding. Through all of these changes and all of these trials in life one thing has remained the same...riding at Burnt Meadow is "me" time. As a 25 year old single woman just starting her journey in life I had no idea how important that would some day be to me. And Sherry has supported and adapted through all of it. She makes me feel like my presence in,not only her business but, her life has meaning. And I am just one person. I know that she has the rare talent of making us all feel like that. It is why after 9 years I still make a point to stop by for a ride, a chat, or sometimes, a hug. These things are always in abundance at Burnt Meadow Stables. Sherry is no longer just my riding instructor. She is my very good friend.
